Mondays@Murdoch: Understanding the Network for Learning and Schemas – a Africa interest event taking place on 2019-09-16 16:30:00 in Australia
Understanding the Network for Learning and Schemas Please join Murdoch Education for a free seminar presented by Dr Stella Louis, early years consultant, trainer and author from London, UK. In this presentation, Stella will discuss Friedrich Froebel’s distinct ideas about play as symbolic, imitative and creative. She will discuss the role of adults in understanding the structure of play in order to support children’s learning. Stella will also discuss the ways children learn through first hand experiences and the network for learning. She will present examples of ways children use symbolic representation to make sense of what they experience and the ways that a knowledge of the biological and socio-cultural paths of children’s development and learning, known as ‘schemas’, enables us to think reflectively about planning and provision for learning in the early years. Dr Stella Louis Dr Stella Louis is a freelance early years consultant, trainer and author working with individual nursery settings, parents, nursery schools, local authorities, government departments and charities. She provides training and consultancy and is particularly interested in observation and its part in developing learning, especially through children’s schemas. Stella leads a small team of Froebelian traveling tutors in promoting, developing and delivering the short Froebel Trust courses in England. She has worked both in the United Kingdom and internationally, in South Africa, where she worked with teachers to develop a Froebelian approach to teaching and learning. https://www.early-education.org.uk/trainers/trainer/25 Find us at Hill Lecture Theatre: https://maps.murdoch.edu.au/location/14502035
