Christmas In July For The Children At Maria Kloppers Orphanage

Geewiz operational manager Karl Burgess felt the urge to splurge in the middle of July when an idea to uplift the lives of underprivileged children struck.

Geewiz is an online store that was started in 2000 by two young entrepreneurs, Ari Oppenheimer and Pinni Goodman, who had the vision to be a one-stop shop for all things imported and delivered. The pair wanted to create a business that delivered reliable goods from overseas with the option of sourcing what their clients were searching for. What started as a home project quickly grew into a business with over fifty employees. Today, the team continues to expand and the company is proud to bring its clients quality products, quickly and efficiently. The Geewiz name has come to be one that many businesses and people in a private capacity trust for all their importing needs.

As grateful as the business is to its incredibly supporting community, Geewiz wanted to give back in a way that would impact and make a difference. Geewiz founder Pinni Goodman shares that Geewiz “wants to be a company that not only provides items to help enrich our customer’s lives, we want to also be a company that gives back to those in need. As individuals living in this world, we greatly value the importance of giving charity in a personal capacity, and this needs to translate into our company’s ethos too. We look forward to doing more for underprivileged communities in the future.”

This was where Burgess stepped in. Geewiz ordered a variety of bikes in various sizes and chose to donate them to the Maria Kloppers Orphanage in Observatory. The Maria Kloppers Orphanage can accommodate up to 50 children, including 12 babies at a time. The orphanage has four homes where children ranging between the ages of 18 months – 18 years are cared for around the clock by social workers and caregivers. As with many orphanages, the children have limited resources as funding can often be a hurdle. And so, when Burgess reached out to offer the bicycles and balance bikes, the Maria Kloppers Orphanage was thrilled.

Geewiz donated a total of 25 brand-new, beautiful bicycles to this home, giving these children a wonderful gift of movement, exercise, fun and happiness. Karl Burgess, together with the Geewiz General manager Nicole Knopp, personally delivered the bikes and spent time with the children, getting to know them and spending time in their world. The bicycles were well received and the orphanage was thrilled to be part of this kindness.

The team at the Maria Kloppers Orphanage were deeply touched by the generous donation. Caroline, the receptionist at the orphanage, thanked the Geewiz group for their generosity and time spent with the children saying that they have “truly enjoyed the time spent together.”

Marketing Manager for the Maria Kloppers Orphanage, Ernesta Snyman –Teessen, wrote in an emotional letter to the Geewiz team saying “WOW!! Did you manage to put a smile on the faces of the children at Maria Kloppers Campus. Thank you so much for the wonderful donation of bicycles. You have definitely made a dream come true for many of the children at Maria Kloppers campus.” Teessen goes on to thank the Geewiz team by giving them a blessing that as “ you lay your head on your pillow tonight, may your heart be filled with the same warmth that we experience every single day. May you always be abundantly blessed with a kind heart.” An incredible letter of thanks from an incredible person working at the orphanage.

It is abundantly clear that the impact of the bicycle donation reaches every child, bringing not only a smile to their faces but the opportunity to master a brand new skill. Whilst the employees and volunteers at the Maria Kloppers Orphanage felt warmth in their hearts at witnessing the kindness shown towards the beloved children in their care. It was indeed a truly happy day for all.

This is the first of many more donations to come from Geewiz, as they hope to continue spreading kindness and light to other underprivileged communities in the near future.
