This beautiful, hand-drawn animation starts with the colours and sounds of Africa, and re-imagines the true story of how the first giraffe traveled from Africa to 19th Century Paris.
After escaping evil slave trader Moreno, Maki, a young Sudanese boy, makes the long journey across the hot desert. Along the way he befriends an orphaned baby giraffe Zarafa and a kindly Bedouin trader. Together they set off on an adenture aboard a magical hot-air baloon, flying the perilous journey to Paris, to present Zarafa as a gift to the King of France.
