Wilberforce Legacy & A story of Africa in 10 objects – a Africa interest event taking place on 2016-07-04 19:00:00 in United Kingdom
In 2007, Hull celebrated the bicentennial of William Wilberforce’s Anti Slavery Bill that inspired many to make radical changes in industrial policy as well as slavery. And yet, with over 35 million slaves across the globe today Wilberforce’s work is far from finished. David Murden, founder of the And Albert Foundation, has worked tirelessly on capacity building, direct trade and ethical business projects across Africa and beyond. This evening will combine a talk and film on his transformational work in Ghana as well as a talk from Gifty Burrows of the William Wilberforce Fund on work today. The Story of Africa in 10 objects follows with stories, poems and music in response to a selection of artefacts collected by David Murden over a 30 year period. Written by David Murden and Rob Bell, The History Troupe ensemble are joined on stage by a number of musicians.
