In an effort to make Press Releases from South Africa posted on MyPR stand out as examples of great writing and attractive to journalists we have the following offer:
Any Free Press Releases submitted to MyPR that follow the criteria below MAY be upgraded to Paid For status and receive greater reach and exposure than free releases. Entirely subjective and subject to the whims of the Chief Grumpy Editor (Alan). We will ONLY enter into correspondence over why we rejected your pithy words if we feel like it or it is a slow day and we want to occupy our minds for a bit!
We are looking for:
- Releases whose titles make the Chief Grumpy Editor of MyPR want to read more – after 27 years in the business that is a big challenge
- Submittee MUST submit via a registered user account (no Guest PR submissions)
- Releases that follow these guidelines for titles: Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Use Your Company/Brand Name in a Press Release Title
- A release that is as close as dammit to this; “News is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising. ~ Lord Northcliffe”
Make us laugh, make us cry, make us want to visit your site, make us want to bask in the power of your pen, give us emotion, give us joy, give us pain, make us whole again.
The release must follow these guidelines:
- Answer the 5W’s and 1H: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.
- Be objective (keep opinions and ‘flowery language’ out of the story).
- Get your facts right.
- Don’t plagiarise.
- Give credit where it is due.
- Cite references.
- Provide URL’s so that your readers can discover more.
- Rather be accurate than first.
- Start with the most important facts first and follow with supporting information.
Seriously Though
Following our guidelines and even engaging with Chief Grumpy could very well be life changing and bank balance altering for your business. We can only offer one thing from our narrow perspective – BRUTAL HONESTY. We only want your writing to shine and be a beacon of hope for South Africa.
Why Chief Grumpy?
In the old days of newsrooms journalists submitted copy that passed through the hands of many people checking – Sub-Editor, Title Editor, Caption Editor, Chief Editor before being printed. The most feared were the Sub Editor (who had an extremely good command of expletives that fired staccatto like out of a mouth filled with cigarette smoke) and, if your words made it to the Editor’s desk then Chief Grumpy had an incredible short sentence way of making every cub journalist hurry home to change their pants.
