Tuelo – a Africa interest event taking place on 2016-12-30 22:00:00 in United States
Tuelo Minah is Tswana from South Africa. Since moving to New York City a decade ago, she has performed with Hugh Masekela, Paul Simon, Lebo M (the Lion King composer), Simphiwe Dana and Angelique Kidjo. As a member of Angelique's band, she can be heard on two of her most recent albums: Djin Djin and OYO. Tuelo is currently touring as leader of her own group, "Tuelo and Her Cousins," playing to packed houses at Lincoln Center (Clark Theater), The Apollo, Rockwood, Subculture, Roulette and Le Poison Rouge. Though her songs are primarily in English, Tuelo often breaks into her native tongue, Setswana – blending African melodies with American soul in a way that puts her unique and powerful voice on prominent display. Along with her musical cousins, she has created a unique genre that is best felt, not described.
