The Wiz: A Youth Theatre Performance of the Funky Oz Retelling
How wonderful is The Wiz? The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this Broadway sensation has inspired numerous revivals, a movie starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, and a recent live television broadcast. Now the magic continues with this production of The Wiz — part of the 24th season of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture's J Company Youth Theatre. A modern take on L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz combines fairy-tale glamour with street-wise soul to form a mysterious and fanciful fantasy for today. With a lively mix of rock, gospel and soul tunes, this production features a talented young cast belting out a score full of beloved hits like "Ease on Down the Road," "A Brand New Day" and "Home."
