Local singing sensation, Storm, burst onto the scene with his debut single ‘Keep Calm’ late last year which catapulted him into stardom. The song was well received by radio stations and critics around the country and while the song’s popularity grew, Storm went back into studio to record his highly-anticipated follow-up single – ‘Get Ready’.
Much like ‘Keep Calm’, Storm blends deep house, funk and various other 80s-inspired elements to create a unique, current sound unlike any other young musician in the country. The song was produced by SAMA-winning producer Alexis Faku who has worked with the likes of Danny K, TK, Khanyo Maphumulo, Ntokozo, Loyiso, Jae, Tamara Dey and many more.
“Working with Alexis is like working with a magician,” Storm says. “He literally creates magic. Alexis looks into your soul and brings out the best of you as an artist and that’s exactly what you look for in a producer. We also both share the same passion towards ‘80s music.”
Storm hopes to bring something new to the local industry and inspire kids around the country to do the same. “South African music is stronger than it’s ever been. Every genre is releasing world-class music and I believe the quality of music is only going to get stronger. There are still so many elements to explore within the local pop space and I hope my music inspires other young artists to get out there and make music. South Africa needs you.”
The song has just been serviced to radio stations around the country and Storm hopes that the response to ‘Get Ready’ will be just as positive. “I’m incredibly proud of this song. It’s something totally new from me but I still dabble with certain elements evident in ‘Keep Calm’ that inspire me. Let the next chapter begin.”
