This is music for the people, by the people; music that will raise the hairs on your arms and bring a great big smile to your face. When we toured this show in 2018, critics called it a “once in a lifetime experience” and our audiences were dancing in the aisles. Now, we open our 19/20 Season with this joyous revival – 16 shows across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Switzerland. We’re thrilled to welcome back Abel Selaocoe as Guest Director – he’s a friend, a colleague, and most of all, a completely inspiring artist who stands alone as an utterly unique, mesmerising, musical voice. Abel will be joined by Sidiki Dembele and Alan Keary from Chesaba, and of course, by the string quartet of Manchester Collective. The show covers everything from Selaocoe’s outrageous arrangements for solo cello to beloved classics by Stravinsky and Haydn; from a set of original African folk to a collection of gorgeous Danish folk songs. At The Door As our concerts tend to sell out before the day of the show, we encourage all of our guests to buy tickets in advance. Any unsold tickets will be available for purchase on the door. Manchester Collective Manchester Collective is redefining how a new generation of audiences engage with the arts in the UK. Recently described by the Yorkshire Post as a "powerful, moving, & extraordinary" addition to the UK music scene, Manchester Collective produces world-class, innovative, and outward facing musical experiences for new audiences across Britain. Their thrilling live performances, allied with daring programming and a brazen approach to convention, have seen the Collective reach more than 200,000 people across their first two seasons. In December 2017, Manchester Collective was appointed Ensemble in Residence at The Stoller Hall, a new flagship concert hall for Manchester. In 2018, Manchester Collective has been featured by publications including The Strad Magazine (twice), Bachtrack (“intimate, immersive experiences without parallel”), and Seen and Heard International (“an astonishing evening”). Classic FM and the BBC have also featured the work of the Collective on an ongoing basis, and in March 2018, MC presented a groundbreaking two hour classical broadcast on NTS Radio. Recent performing highlights include concert debuts at Kings Place in London, a PRSF supported tour of the Collective’s latest major commission, 100 DEMONS, (featuring electronic musician Vessel, cellist and Radiohead collaborator Oliver Coates, and music by Daniel Elms), and a packed performance of Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” in The Stoller Hall, broadcast live on Facebook to over 10,000 viewers.
