If you are looking to spend less time maintaining your lawn, you may want to consider artificial grass – also known as synthetic grass or artificial turf. This type of “instant lawn” is quickly becoming popular for residential and commercial applications due to its low maintenance qualities.
How Does Artificial Grass Drain During Rain?
Artificial grass from TLC Flooring consists of high-quality synthetic fibres laid on a backing of polypropylene fibres and a high-quality latex spray and is made to look like natural grass. Small drainage holes in the artificial grass allow the water to drain away.
Can Artificial Grass be Laid Over Natural Lawn?
The synthetic grass should be laid over a surface that can supply sufficient drainage and support the intended traffic of the area to be covered. Suitable bases include compacted soil (with adequate drainage) and cement or asphalt flooring. It is not recommended that artificial grass be laid over the existing lawn unless the surface is very even and has good draining. However, the underlying natural grass will die off.
What is the Life Span of Artificial Grass?
Although the lifespan of TLC Designa Turf depends on the amount of traffic it encounters, it should last approximately ten years as it is UV resistant and has undergone rigorous testing to ensure the colour does not fade over the years. TLC Flooring guarantees
Is Artificial Lawn Safe for Children and Pets?
TLC Designa Turf is non-toxic, soft, and safe for children and pets and easy to clean. Dog mess can be removed and hosed down as usual. A mild detergent may be used to clean any messes, but any acidic product, bleach, or peroxide should be avoided.
Benefits of Artificial Grass
- Low maintenance.
- Cleaner option, no mud, less mess brought into the house, especially by pets.
- Cost-effective in the long term, no need to water, mow the lawn or apply fertilisers/pesticides.
- Synthetic grass is permeable, so any water/liquids will drain through the surface.
What Maintenance is Required for Synthetic Lawn?
Besides keeping the surface free of waste and debris, the only maintenance required on synthetic grass is a good brush with a leaf rake or hard bristle broom twice a month and a wash or rinse if spillage occurs. It is also recommended that the drainage is regularly checked to prevent this from becoming an issue.
Does Artificial Grass Require Edging?
Although edgings are not necessary with artificial lawns, the same edgings used for natural grass can be used with synthetic grass.
