SEED She Journeys Bootcamp Empowers Female Entrepreneurs at Nelson Mandela University

Port Elizabeth, South Africa – 11 October 2024- The She Journeys Bootcamp, hosted by Nelson Mandela University SEED (Student Employability Entrepreneurship Development) Program, in partnership with Varonique Philander, Founder of She Journeys, took place at Nelson Mandela University’s North Campus, Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator. This impactful event aimed to equip female entrepreneurs with essential knowledge and skills to succeed in their business endeavours.

Varonique Philander, Nelson Mandela University alumni, a lawyer and entrepreneur, kicked off the bootcamp with an engaging personality test, followed by an insightful presentation on types of businesses and their legal requirements. As the owner of Chaya Legal, Philander shared her expertise, garnered from nearly a decade of legal practice.

Thando Ngcwabe-Cokile, the subsequent speaker, delved into the various funding options available to entrepreneurs. Her key takeaway resonated with attendees “When approaching potential funders, remember it’s not about you; it’s about them”- her poignant advice emphasized the importance of understanding investors’ needs.

Third speaker, Sandisiwe Kiti, highlighted the crucial role of relationships in entrepreneurship. “Most of the time, people work with those they like,” she emphasized. She stressed the importance of building and maintaining meaningful relationships in business; documenting every transaction for transparency and accountability and writing down business plans to stay focused and aligned with goals.

Kiti’s inspiring quote of the day, “Start!”, encouraged attendees to take the first step towards turning their entrepreneurial visions into reality.

The She Journeys Bootcamp demonstrated the power of collaborative efforts in fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth among women. This initiative underscores the importance of providing resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to aspiring female business leaders.
