Schools Start Countdown To London 2012 Olympics On Safe Social Learning Platform Radiowaves

(PRWEB) July 11, 2012

A summer of sport is nearly here and all over the UK schools are sharing Olympic Fever through social networks and smartphones.

As the Olympic Flame makes its way around the country, students are filming it pass through their town and uploading it to a safe social network for schools using the new MakeWaves iPhone app.

The free MakeWaves app makes it safe and easy for pupils of all ages to upload video and images, post comments and take part in competitions instantly from an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Specially designed teacher tools allow educators to quickly take creative learning outside the classroom and easily manage their students social media work anywhere.

The social learning app can be downloaded for free from the Apple app store or http://www.radiowaves.co.uk/makewavesapp

Young people who carried the torch themselves have also had interviews published on the Makewaves network. Lizzie from Edinburgh said I was really nervous in the week leading up to it and not even excited. But once I started it was a brilliant experience. My family are really proud of me and happy that Ive had the chance to carry the torch.

Brigshaw High School in Leeds, England has even had a dedicated Olympics Week with a range of activities including visits from international students and a world record breaking Zumba dance! Over 3,000 people took part in the event which will put Brigshaw in the record books. You can see coverage of the dance here. Students at Brigshaw earnt themselves Reporter medals from S2R for their coverage of the week. S2R are giving out 500 medals to the best Olympic-themed Reports.

Schools are also benefitting from the Olympic buzz by bringing the spirit of London 2012 to their sports day. St Ambrose Barlow RC School in Manchester, England hosted an Olympic themed sports day, with each class representing a different country. See them flying their flags here.
