Raymond  Mhlaba Municipality receives  new electricity poles before road work.

  • The Raymond Mhlaba Municipality has been receiving much needed new poles with electric wires the past few weeks from Eskom.
  • These installation have suffered delays from internal problems and natural disaster through out the year.
  • These is just phase one which will be followed by road work  to be done to cover potholes and  create a tar road.

As a part of governments service delivery with planned road work over a span of a few years which will benefit both residents of these municipality and also individuals looking for opportunity.

Eskom has been going around the municipality drilling new poles in place of the old ones accompanied by electricity wires for stronger electricity distribution and installing electricity meter boxes for newly built houses by residents. While this is a great initiative has been going on for a couple months now there has been a few challenges along the way including some houses needed electricity not having owners around during the installation to which community representatives have to contact home owners to help get them electricity. Natural disaster on the other hand have deterred this initiative with a surge in strong winds in the past few weeks which saw 2 different villages suffer from a fire outbreak and power outage respectfully due to the disaster.

This comes after Eskom partnered with a private entity to help do the installation process as they supply the company with the material they need. These installation included several villages including Ngcabasa Location, Washington Location, EQuthubeni Location and Zalaze Location to mention a few. Due to the large number of houses in these areas work is divided in which some contractors work on drilling poles and others install the wires onto homes. While waiting for electricity metre boxes which take time because of the unknown number houses that need these boxes. Like any other projects they have been hiccups from waiting for supply from Eskom which led to delays but the project is up and running as of July and the construction company is currently after receiving the required equipment from Eskom which are electricity poles and metre boxes.

The constructors are working with community leaders to ensure every house receives electricity this project is expected to carry on for the rest of the year going in to early next year. After the installation the municipality is expecting road work to be underway for their gravel to tar roads from Debe Nek going into roads next to the villages for safer roads which currently is filled which major potholes after the work is complete it would make road travel quicker and efficient for cars. This project is set to happen for the next three to five year.
