And so begins the exciting journey to mass produce the card game, Pirate Masters, on Jumpstarter, Crowdfunding South Africa.
The 6th of October, 2022, marks the day that Pirate Masters, the card game, officially launched crowdfunding project details on Jumpstarter, Crowdfunding South Africa. The aim – to raise funds in order to mass produce and grow the thrilling, energetic, strategic and fun game within the board and card game market.
It has been 10+ years of growth and development since its conceptualization in late 2009/ early 2010, originally as a board game. From continuous playing; learning; changing of rules, graphics, pictures, number of cards in a deck etc. this current stage of crowdfunding stems from continued requests for reasonably priced decks, from people that have played the game, to purchase and gift to others.
“Pirate Masters was first conceptualized in late 2009/ early 2010 as a board game – an activity to do with my daughter who loved old school games and crafts. After the board game was done and with the continued pleas by my daughter for more games, I decided to try to convert the board game into a card game. Initially the card game was made from playing cards covered with plain paper and hand written notes of instruction on the cards. I then approached some friends to play the game to see what it would be like with more than two players. My friends were so impressed that they convinced me to find pictures and graphics to go along with the cards, and thus the journey began.” – Ronald Schutze, Pirate Masters founder and creator.
The plan is to raise enough capital to mass produce the game at a lower manufacturing cost and thus a decent selling price. Funds will also be set aside for marketing efforts and establishing a web store to offer Pirate Masters to the public without the added cost of a middleman. Once this is achieved the creator and founder will take Pirate Masters to the Essen Spiel Convention, the world’s largest board and card game convention, as well as look into other conventions around the world to showcase it as a South African created and manufactured game. The growth of Pirate Masters as a card game will lead to further development with regards to the creation of an online gaming app and could act as a pathway for the introduction of the board game in the market.
After collecting testimonials from 23 Pirate Master players of various ages, genders and nationalities, it was determined that:
- All players would recommend Pirate Masters to their friends and family.
- 96% of players would buy and give Pirate Masters as a gift.
- All players would like to eventually see the game in an online app format.
- Pirate Masters received a 9.6/10 rating!
When pledging as a backer to support the Pirate Masters project on Jumpstarter, you have the option of pledging three different amounts. Each pledge comes with its own reward. Backers will receive either 1, 2 or 3 decks of Pirate Master cards, depending on the amount they choose to pledge. Every deck consists of a treasure chest looking box, 144 playing cards, and a set of rules.
