NT Live Brings the Best Plays Staged in the UK to the Big Screen

An exciting new season of world-class plays, filmed live from various theatres in London, is drawing to a close at select Ster-Kinekor and Cinema Nouveau theatres at the end of November this year. Cinema audiences and theatre lovers alike are treated to innovative productions from some of Britain’s most exciting playwrights, directors, actors, and stages, on the big screen as part of the NT (National Theatre) Live series.

Each of the NT Live productions are shown at Rosebank Nouveau in Johannesburg, and at Ster-Kinekor cinemas in Brooklyn, Pretoria, Gateway in Umhlanga and at Ster-Kinekor V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, for four screenings only.

“With NT Live productions showing on our cinema screens, local audiences get the opportunity to experience some of the best of British theatre in a theatre-like setting, as an extension of the live production’s audience. The advantage is that local cinema tickets are affordable, making these world-class productions from the UK accessible to anyone who enjoys and appreciates great theatre,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

Following the season’s productions of YERMA, DEAR ENGLAND, VANYA, and THE MOTIVE AND THE CUE, the final production of the current season, NYE, releases on 30 November for four screenings only.

In the brilliant NT Live production, NYE, Michael Sheen plays Nye Bevan in a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the NHS. Confronted with death, Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan’s deepest memories lead him on a mind-bending journey back through his life; from childhood to mining underground, Parliament and fights with Churchill.

Written by Tim Price?and directed by?Rufus Norris (Small Island), this epic new Welsh fantasia was filmed live from the National Theatre. It will be released in select Ster-Kinekor cinemas on 30 November, 01, 04 and 05 December.
