NRL fans love blaming referees perhaps more than any other group of sports fans on the planet, but the assist for the opening try of the grand final could be given to Matt Cecchin, who inadvertently helped Josh Addo-Carr sprint away to score. A resolute North Queensland Cowboys team had held the Melbourne Storm at bay for the opening 20 minutes, before Will Chambers pounced on a ricochet 10 metres from his own try line and offloaded to the flying winger.
