Non-Toxic Masculinity: Sexual Health & the Culture of Consent – a Culture interest event taking place on 2017-08-23 19:00:00 in United States
Today, our understanding of consent tends to focus on the presence of an enthusiastic, “Yes!” While this is an important part of consent, it’s not the whole picture. In this workshop, we will build on the skills to recognize the limits of this yes-or-no model of consent and move towards a power-aware, process-based model of consent. Participants will have opportunities to practice this process and reflect on the ways it changes how we relate to each other. Because rape culture relies on toxic masculinity, a consent culture must rely on changing the power dynamics in gendered interactions. Once we’ve established the basis for a more nuanced understanding of consent, we will critically examine how to incorporate this into sex-positive, pleasure-focused sexual experiences. We will discuss sexual anatomy, dispell myths around how bodies & relationships work, and share important, medically-accurate information about how to have satisfying sexual experiences. Join us to examine, discuss, and practice the skills needed for healthier and more rewarding sexual and intimate relationships. Sliding scale tickets available at , , and .
