This week, Nikon announced its latest APS-C camera, the Z50II. It’s an update to 2019’s Z50, using the same sensor but with an upgraded processor. With it comes Nikon’s 3D tracking autofocus system, which can recognize up to nine subjects and automatically switch between them.
During our brief time with the camera, we were able to put it to the test shooting some wildlife around Seattle, as well as a variety of landscapes and other subjects.
You can read our overview of the Z50II and our initial review here.

We don’t usually test a product for ten years before reviewing it, but after a decade of using the Lowepro Photo Sport 300 AW II on an almost daily basis, Managing Editor Dale Baskin tells us why he loves this pack.
A faster sensor, improved autofocus and video see Nikon’s third-gen mid-range full-framer go toe-to-toe against Canon’s EOS R6 II and the Sony a7 IV. We feel its all-round ability lifts it to the top of the pile.

Our DPREVIEW Tribute:
After nearly 25 years of operation, DPReview closed on 10 April 2023. This difficult decision was part of the annual operating plan review that parent company, Amazon, shared earlier this year.
Over the course of 25 years, DP Review built up a reputation as being one of the most informative places to go for information about that new camera or lens you’re after. DP Review began as an independent reviews site based in the UK in 1998, the brainchild of Philip and Joanna Askey, but it was eventually purchased by Amazon in 2007 and relocated over to Seattle in the USA in 2010.
Cheers DPReview – thanks for the great work and content that guided photographers, videographers and techno junkies the world over!
