Tuesday 29 September. Cape Peninsula

We start the day by driving along the Sea Point Promenade, Bantry Bay and Clifton to Maiden’s Cove where we step off the coach to take in the views of Camps Bay. Unfortunately the Twelve Apostles is cloud-covered, but the stretch of coastline remains beautiful all the same.
We continue along the coastal road (Victoria Drive) past Llandudno and on to Hout Bay. The group boards a boat and sets sail for ‘Seal Island’ (actually ‘Duiker Island’) to view a 3000 strong breeding colony of Cape Fur Seal, as well as take in the views of the surrounding Bay and mountains.
From Hout Bay we continue over Chapman’s Peak Drive, spending some time at the main lookout point, before passing through Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Misty Cliffs and Scarborough and onwards to to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
At Cape Point the group is given ample time to take the funicular or pathway up to the old lighthouse and the breathtaking views the vantage point offers.
A little later some of us take the footpath down to Diaz Beach (see photograph). The beautiful beach is adjoined to the Cape of Good Hope, at the south-western most point of Africa.
