Located about a block east of IFFV HQs was Rec Beach, and just offshore were two huge Navy tanker-generator ships which provided electric power (4,500 Kilo Watts from each ship) to the entire city (visible in the photo background) (Photo courtesy Wolfgang Scherp). And yes, that is a miniture golf course in the foreground, that is a lifeguard tower, and that is a speedboat towing a water-skier in the background. Life was tough for REMFs in Vietnam. In this photo you can see the curve of the beach as it winds south toward the end of the peninsula (Photo courtesy Wolfgang Scherp). That’s Hon Tre Island visible in the background of this photo, and yes those are bikini-clad women in the surf (Photo courtesy Wolfgang Scherp).
