Since its completion she has returned to South Africa whereshe is (1906). ^^hile at Imfume and Umzumbe they were much interested inSunday-school and in the womans meeting, and among thepeople who lived near or came within their reach. Theirchildren were: i. Burt Nichols, b. Dec. 31, 1863, in Imfume, Natal, SouthAfrica; came to the United States of America for educationin May and June. 1878; prepared for college in St. Johns-bury, Vt.; graduated from Amherst in 1884, and, after post-graduate course of one year, began the study of medicine;gi-aduated from New York University in 1889, taking high-est honors in a class of 180 students. He m. INIarch, 1892,Miss Hester A. McConnell of New York (graduate of PostGraduate Hospital), b. June 7, 1868, in Clarksville, N. Y.,dau. of William and Eliza Ann (Chamberlain) McConnell.He left soon for Natal under appointment as Medical Mis-sionary. May and June, 18S1; graduated from Oberlin Col-lege 1889; went to Natal to help her parents in the workin the same year, and returned to America in Xov.. 1891;ni. Jan. 25, 1892, George Burr Cowles, Jr.. b. Xov. 11, 1862,in Bridgeport, Conn., and left for Natal in April, 1803, hebeing under appointment of the A. B. C. F. il. as principalof Boys Training vSchool at Adams Mission Station. Herfailing health compelled a return to America in 1902. Thefamily returned to Africa in the fall of 1904. Ch.: 1.
