Craig Phadrig and Caledonian Canal Entrance Clachnaharry Inverness from North Kessock Black Isle Ross & Cromarty Scotland

Relic of past civilisation (Craig Phadrig Hill was the HQ of Brude, King of the Pictish Nation), and monument to man’s industry (the Caledonian Canal was an immense undertaken, engineered by Thomas Telford), together with modern communications (the tradio/telephone masts atop Dunain Hill) and with the leisure pursuit of the 21st century, a yacht at anchor. Add in a liberal amount of sunshine and a low tide to show the water as a lovely colour of blue, and here you have a "picture postcard" of today’s Scottish Highlands, a wonderful blend of past, present and future.
Sunday was a gorgeous sunny day, and merited a leisurely drive round the "unexplored" part of the Black Isle – the south coast westwards from North Kessock to Charleston. Only minutes from Inverness but a completely different world. Although the area is now essentially a suburb of Inverness, its peace and tranquility – and its rural essence – still remain, and the views across the Beauly Firth were immense. Unfortunately it meant taking some of these shots almost directly into the sun -but hopefully I will be forgiven on this occasion!
