Brooklyn: Coney Art Walls – CRASH

"Memories of my childhood at New York City beaches always centered on Coney Island. Kids always had reading assignments over the summer for school, and my required reading was comic books. I wanted to make the idea of reading at the beach the central theme of the mural. So I cropped different images of my favorite coming books such as Captain America’s fist, Superman’s “S”, Betty from the Archies, and The Flash’s logo on the mural. Summertime 2016, just like summertime 1967, 1975, or 2020, will always be about superheroes, comic books, and Coney Island." – CRASH
CRASH, a Bronx-native born John Matos, started bombing at the age of 13. Taking the name CRASH after accidentally crashing the computer at schoo, his name began appearing all over trains in the 70’s. By 1980, he began transitioning from train yards to galleries.
Coney ArtWalls, presented by Thor Equities, is an outdoor street art museum located in Greenwood Beach near the Coney Island boardwalk and beach, curated by Joseph Sitt and Jeffrey Ditch.
