Moving Climate Services Forward: A Systems Perspective – a Africa interest event taking place on 2018-11-27 08:30:00 in United States
Governments, companies and individuals rely on accurate, timely, and accessible climate and weather information to make well-informed decisions and become more resilient to the changing climate. Climate services operations differ among countries and regions, reflecting diverse social, economic, and legal contexts, and national priorities. There are, however, common components of the climate services system that create the opportunity to share lessons and identify common principles that can be tailored to local, national, and regional circumstances. The World Bank, the USAID-funded Learning Agenda on Climate Services, and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) are collaborating to identify these commonalities and create a forum for sharing information to help move climate services forward. You are cordially invited to join these institutions on November 27th for presentations and discussions on: Positioning user perspectives at the center of climate services design, delivery, and feedback; The role of the private sector in climate services; Assessment of government capacity to deliver climate services and of the effectiveness of climate services on the ground; and Donor coordination around country-led codesign of climate services, and tracking progress of climate service use and delivery goals. Lessons will be drawn from the USAID-funded Learning Agenda on Climate Services that focused on Sub-Saharan Africa, along with insights from other regions. Please register to join the discussion of these topics to help take climate and weather services forward to address the challenges of a changing climate. Either in person or virtual participation is possible. Online access information will be shared with registered participants.Contact information: For more information please contact Alison Sneddon (Alison.Sneddon@practicalaction.org.uk).
