Minibus Taxi Industry Embraces Technology

  • Taxi Travel Agency and SANTACO Western Gauteng Region Partnership

Taxi Travel Agency has signed a Service Level Agreement with SANTACO Western Gauteng Region wherein the Regional Structure will no longer use manual bookings at 5 of its long distance Taxi Ranks but will have 5 staff members from the Taxi Ranks trained on how to use the Taxi Travel Agency Mobile App to book trips online and shall assist travelers with online bookings as they arrive at the Taxi Ranks, it is expected that the traveler having learnt how to do the online booking on the Mobile App and have it downloaded on their smart phones will use it to make a booking for their return trip.

According to this Agreement, Taxi Travel Agency, SWGR (SANTACO WESTERN GAUTENG REGION), The affected Affiliate Taxi Ranks and any Ticket Selling Agents will share the commission in the Ratio 2:2:3:3 respectively, with Taxi Travel Agency and the SWGR taking smaller share than the Taxi Associations which also have to pay Queue Marshals from their bigger share and the ticket selling Agents share includes fees charged by payment Gateway Service Provider in case of online payments and any Ticket Selling Agent fees where such Agents exist.

Taxi Travel Agency has also introduced card payments at several Local Taxi Ranks with the Duduza Taxi Rank in Kwathema leading with two Taxis that accept card payments.

The Ability to pay for your Taxi Fare using your card or any of the payment Apps including Google Pay, Apply Pay, Samsung Pay, etc has been warmly welcomed by commuters.

Taxi Travel Agency hopes to introduce Travel Cards for regular travelers to certain destinations of work like the Johannesburg CBD in the near future whereby Taxis equipped with our POS Devices can ferry those commuters with speed to their places of work or the CBD, this idea has also been touted to the Gauteng Provincial Department of Transport where scholar transport Subsidies can be loaded on these travel cards and the Taxi Operators who transport children to schools can get better turnaround times for payment as they will get paid per trip on a daily basis as the children tap or swipe their cards.
