Merlo ready for his next cricketing challenge in ‘weird’ year:
Emerging all-rounder Jonathan Merlo could only describe the year he has had as “pretty weird”, such has been his rise through the under-19 World Cup, four months as part of the national performance squad in Brisbane, and now the opportunity to impress against India in the tourists' only red-ball warm-up match, beginning on Wednesday. In what has been a year to remember, Merlo, a fast-medium bowler and middle-order batsman, is set to have an important role to play in the Cricket Australia XI in its four-day clash against India at the SCG.
