Melbourne Design Week Lecture: Marjetica Potr?

Melbourne Design Week Lecture: Marjetica Potr? – a Africa interest event taking place on 2019-03-17 17:00:00 in Australia

Marjetica Potr? is an artist and architect based in Ljubljana and Berlin. Her work typically focuses on community-based projects that demonstrate a concern for sustainability and participatory design. These projects facilitate individual empowerment, problem-solving tools and strategies for self-sustainability. Key projects include ‘Dry Toilet’ (Venezuela), ‘The Soweto Project’ (South Africa) and ‘Of Soil and Water’ (England) – a public art project and chemical-free swimming pond located on a construction site in London. Until 2018 Potr? was a professor of social practice at Hamburg’s University of Fine Arts/HFBK. Here she discusses her practice, which merges art, architecture, ecology and anthropology. MELBOURNE DESIGN WEEK Melbourne Design Week is an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the National Gallery of Victoria running from 14 to 24 March, 2018. The annual 10-day design program offers a platform for the celebration of local and international design excellence, linking creativity with business, technology and the community. It highlights Melbourne’s credentials as a design city, while emphasising the role of design as a catalyst, driving innovation, and enriching culture and society. MOLONGLO Molonglo operates within the realm of contemporary development theory and practice. Since 1964 their projects have included architecture and urban design, hotels, hospitality, furniture and product design, publishing, exhibitions and public programs. Molonglo’s process is often collaborative and cross-disciplinary, which allows for enormous fluidity, flexibility and disjunction in creative making. Ideologically, this process reflects their belief that to foster healthy, cohesive and tolerant societies, we need to accept messy arrangements – whether they be political, social or aesthetic. Molonglo has offices and active projects in Canberra, Melbourne, London and Athens.
