Me And My Friends | Kabantu – a Africa interest event taking place on 2017-05-25 19:00:00 in United Kingdom
ME AND MY FRIENDS Towering harmonies, unstoppably hip-shaking grooves, stunningly inventive cello and clarinet: somehow all come together seamlessly to make Me and My Friends’ unique blend of bouncy reggae and loveable afro grooves. “Unusual instrumental forces create a sublime fusion that combines pastoral dreaminess with the heat of reggae, highlife and Afrobeat sounds” – Songlines Magazine. Bound by their mutual love of sun-drenched vintage sounds, the quintet effortlessly re-invents their influences around the delicate, evocative and instantly recogniseable voice of singer and songwriter Nick Rasle. The result is something fresh and unique, marrying the slurring emotional power of Billie Holiday and Skip James with the redemptive, life-affirming stylings of afrobeat, highlife and roots reggae. https://www.meandmyfriends.co.uk/ KABANTU Kabantu are a quintet from Manchester who have been charming and elevating audiences across the UK with their high-octane and percussive live workouts blending roots, jazz & classical music from around the world. “Such a refreshing group with an exciting future ahead” – Lopa Kothari (BBC Radio 3) The band’s songbook unravels new marriages of music from around the globe. Vocal harmonies of South Africa coalesce with everything from Celtic reels and Brazilian samba to Balkan folk music and beyond. Kabantu throw away the rulebook to bridge countries and cultures, creating an exuberant and joyful sound. http://www.kabantu.com/
