LRT Systems: Mitigation of Stray Current Corrosion Risk – a Africa interest event taking place on 2017-05-24 19:30:00 in Canada
Light Rail Transit Systems are growing in popularity with a number of projects both underway and planned in the Greater Toronto Area. Traction power is by DC power supplied from an overhead centenary with the running rails as the negative return. Current that does not return to the traction substation though the running rails and negative conductors is considered stray current. Stray current pick up and discharge from third party buried assets can be detrimental and they can suffer corrosion. The presentation discusses the fundamental stray current mitigation philosophy for the Eglinton Cross-town LRT. Our presenter, Craig Stevenson, P.Eng. has a B.Sc. Engineering degree in Materials from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa which he received in 1985. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion, is a NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist and Cathodic Protection Specialist and has worked as a corrosion engineer for 35 years. Craig is a lead Cathodic Protection Instructor with NACE International. Craig is principal engineer at Apex Corrosion in Aurora, and is on contract to Crosslinx where he is the certified Corrosion Engineer responsible for Corrosion and Cathodic Protection on the ECLRT project.
