Learn More About The Different Types Of Door Locks

Door locks are devices that secure doors and keep unauthorized people out. There are numerous types of door locks available, each with its own set of features and benefits. The following are some examples of common door locks:

  • Deadbolts: One of the most common types of locks used on residential doors is deadbolts. When the lock is engaged, a metal bolt is extended into the doorjamb. Deadbolts can be opened and closed with a key, a thumb turn, or a combination of the two.

  • Knob locks are another popular type of residential lock. They are made up of a knob or lever that is turned to activate the lock mechanism. Knob locks are typically less secure than deadbolts and are typically used in conjunction with other types of locks to provide additional security.

  • Lever handle locks are similar to knob locks in that they have a lever handle instead of a knob. To lock and unlock the door, they also use a spring-loaded latch mechanism.

  • Locks that use a keyed cylinder to lock or unlock the door are known as keyed cylinder locks. They are commonly used in commercial and industrial settings and can be found in a variety of door types such as wooden, metal, or glass doors.

  • Smart locks are electronic locks that can be controlled via a smartphone app, a keypad, or a voice command. They can be linked to other smart devices in your home, such as security cameras or thermostats, and programmed to lock or unlock the door at predetermined times or in response to specific events.

In addition to these types of locks, other locking mechanisms such as magnetic locks, electric strikes, electric deadbolts, and so on can be used to secure doors.

The type of lock that is best for you will be determined by your specific needs, the level of security required, the location of the door, and your budget. It is always important to select a lock that is appropriate for the level of security that you require as well as the door that you wish to secure.
