This is a good video Tony but it’s not one of your great ones. Because, I
find it hard to believe that your PC video production platform is far more
efficient and more profitable than that of your Mac platform given that all
the Application Software that you have mentioned in your lecture were
originally created on the mac platform for videographers such as yourself.
Nonetheless, it does come down to none other than Preferences and Cost$ as
you put it. Also, Creative Cloud was created after Apple started iCloud and
now everyone on the bandwagon of Cloud computing. So let’s put the credit
where the credit is due as far as this Creative Cloud from Adobe.
Lastly, your video tend to ramble a bit about all these application suites
and the average enthusiast of GoPro and the “Newbies” of video editing
CANNOT relate to a lot of these applications versus beginning with basic
video application software like: the FREE GoPro App, iMovie which is a
standard Free App on the Mac. I have been around the Mac for a very
longtime and I would not turn video enthusiasts loose onto Premiere or
Final Cut Pro because these are very high end application software and most
new users would be lost with these applications when you realize that they
are asking You which application to start video editing with. Since I use a
Mac exclusively and I have access to iMovie, iDVD and of course the GoPro
App; there is a lot that these new users can accomplish with iMovie in
order to obtain great rendering on any medium using the SHARE Command (from
iMovie) Facebook, VIMEO, CNN iReport and not to mention straight videos to
the venerable QuickTime and iDVD for your TV viewing pleasure and to
    include YouTube.
Your videos are quite informative. But, I could not agree with your way of
stating the choices that are out there because you are truly “biased” in
    your opinion.
Btw-Thanks a lot for video recommendation as far as where to start with the
GoPro’s “sweet spot” as far as recording is concerned because I was looking
for the same answer and you have answered it. I have highlighted my HERO3+
Black Edition User Manual; Camera Settings Table, Page: 22-23 where all
    that information is detailed.
    Cheers!?

Great video… I just subscribed. I just used my gopro hero3 silver
edition for the first time. I had a lot of crackling type noise on my
videos. This happened even when holding it taping. I am using the
standard case and just holding it. Any solution for this??

Hi Tony, just got my GoPro 3+ Black edition for xmas and am just learning
how to optimize it for my general use right now (hiking, dogs) with the
hopes of bigger adventures in future. This video was a perfect starter, Im
open to any suggestions as I am tech savvy (websites, I have full Creative
Cloud suite) but I’ve never messed with video editing. The GoPro tutorials
are all over the place for beginners. Thanks again!?

what would be the best way to start this adventure? I have little bit of
background in photoshop and corel but only with stills. what software
should I get to be able to make most common effects and just get to know my
way around video editing? btw. I love what you said about pc vs mac: that
was very fair and true. I love apple too, but pc is just pc… 🙂 thank you
    for making this video?

    Hi Tony. Great video!

I have Premiere Pro CS6 on my MacBook Pro. If I want to edit GoPro video,
what Sequence Preset should I select, if any, before I import the video?

I want to experiment with the different video resolutions the GoPro Hero3+
Black Edition provides, up to 4K with Protune… I found my version of Final
Cut Pro 6.0.6 to be too slow with the highest GoPro video quality and the
preview is very jerky, though I have used it in the past with RED 4K video
without any performance problem. I may upgrade to Final Cut X, but then my
Mac is old too (2008)… so Premiere is the most economical solution for now.

    Thanks,
    tom

specific one to use? looking for how to condense a long video to one that
is just the highlights. any suggestions? thanks Pam?

I have been watching this video for 5 minutes. You need to change the title
of your video to match your subject matter. It took you over 5 minutes to
get to the software subject. Just saying.?

    Hey Tony,

I downloaded Adobe Premiere last night, as I said before I haven’t used
Premiere since the 90’s but I really want to get this video edited. So as I
understand it, now all I have to do is pay a monthly fee to use Premiere?
What happens if I get tired of it and don’t want to pay any more down the
road? It’s hard to believe that you don’t have to actually buy the software
any more? Like I said, I’ve been out of the video scene for a long time
now. Looking forward to learning Premiere
    today.

You’re right Terence – Vegas is powerful and feature packed. I like it
alot. It does have a learning curve that can be tough though. And I’m still
partial to that great package of programs with the Adobe collection. But if
you’re just doing video then for sure the Sony path is a great choice.

  26. Terence Kearns

    19 February 2014 at 8:54 am

PERSONALLY, I find Sony Vegas to be the fastest and simplest for cutting
video. Adobe premiere was my first, but it takes a lot more clicks to get
the same job done. Also with cameras like GoPro, they are optimised for
compression. This makes the footage CPU intensive to edit. Vegas Pro 12,
right click on all the clips in media view and select “generate proxy
files”. Then edit at speed. Everything is automatic and transparent. I have
Adobe CC (I’m a photographer), but I prefer Vegas.

In terms of integration, Vegas understands photoshop files and it’s layers.
Also, I use After Effects for hardcore stuff, I do all AE exports as image
sequences. I drop the sequence into a vegas project file (.veg) then I use
the .veg file as a single clip in my main edit. If I need to change the AE
footage, I re-export only the changed frames. You don’t have to do ANYTHING
in vegas to edit with the updated clip since it’s pointing to the updated
sequence of images. Enough integration for me.
