Lambeth Heritage Festival at The Chocolate Museum – a Africa interest event taking place on 2017-10-01 15:00:00 in United Kingdom
LAMBETH HERITAGE FESTIVAL AT THE CHOCOLATE MUSEUM On 24th September and 1st October, as part of the Lambeth Heritage Festival, we'll be celebrating the diverse community in Lambeth with a special talk about the history of hot chocolate focusing on the relations between Britain, West Africa and the Caribbean. Referencing works and beliefs of physicians and historians since the 17th century, it will illustrate the different uses and health benefits of cocoa. Jamaican cocoa tea will be served from 4 pm. On the 1st October, We'll dedicate the date to the cocoa growing countries and their farmers (World Cocoa & Farmers Day). We'll screen "Chocolate de Paz" at 3 pm, a film by Gwen Burnyeat and Pablo Mejía Trujillo that depicts the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó’s experiences of resistance, via a journey through their processes of organic chocolate production. From the seed to the product, the cacao is the narrative thread that takes us through the Community’s stories of violence and resilience, and their fight to remain neutral in the face of the Colombian armed conflict.
