Brighter Sound presents Junior Jam – an exciting new Saturday morning music group for children aged four to eight at Band on the Wall. Junior Jam gives children the chance to develop and build music skills in a fun, friendly and accessible way. Sessions last two hours and take place on the first Saturday morning of each month, with musical games and activities, including time to experiment, play with instruments and socialise. Junior Jam is led by Project Jam Sandwich, a world-folk-fusion quintet of award-winning musicians known for concocting captivating, exhilarating improvisations, infectious rhythms and beautiful melodies from around the globe. All instruments are provided (ukuleles available for use in sessions only – we can offer advice on where to go and what to buy). Sat 3 Sept: Salsa Band Explore the lively dance music of the salsa band. Think of those cha cha chas and rumbas on Strictly Come Dancing and get ready to create some sizzling salsa. Sat 1 Oct: Wild West In October we move to the Wild West with stonking hoedowns to get your feet a-tappin’. Learn how to get your fingers around the ukulele and play along to ferocious fiddling. You might even find yourselves caught up in a bit of line dancing! Sat 5 Nov: Folk Music from the British Isles We’re back on British soil with a jammed-pack session exploring folk music from the British Isles. Home is where the heart is – and for Project Jam Sandwich's Scottish violinist Katie Foster, that very much means rapid reels and ceilidh dancing. She will take you through the music and dances of this fantastic world as well as hopping around the rest of the UK to explore what the Welsh, English and Irish also get up to. Plus learn all about the giant double bass with Ali McMath – the largest string instrument of them all! Sat 3 Dec: African Drumming and Singing In the final session of 2016, we explore the wonderful music and languages of Africa. Create a South African children's choir and learn songs for celebrations led by Project Jam Sandwich's cellist Abel Selaocoe. Then get drumming on the djembes – time to make lots of noise and learn amazing rhythms for a super funky morning!
