Join iStore and Think Ahead on 16 May to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) Free session at iStore Sandton to explore Apple accessibility features

Join iStore and Think Ahead on 16 May to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) Free session at iStore Sandton to explore Apple accessibility features:

16 May 2019, iStore Sandton – On Global Accessibility Awareness Day, iStore, in partnership with the company’s charitable partner Think Ahead, is excited to announce a new initiative for local Apple and Mac supporters and customers.

iStore South Africa has set up an in-store process which will enable customers to financially contribute to this worthy global cause throughout the month of May. For every donation made in-store by customers when they make a purchase at any iStore in South Africa, iStore in turn will match the contributions. The funds will then be transferred to Think Ahead, who will utilise the money to purchase and donate iPads to selected Accessibility Schools.

“Technology is most powerful when it empowers everyone”

Chris Dodd, CEO of iStore South Africa, commented, “The purpose of Global Accessibility Awareness Day around the world is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and perhaps try to understand a bit more about people with different disabilities. Here in South Africa we would like to do our part. When products are designed to be accessible, more people can do what they love. That’s why Apple builds powerful features into every operating system and every device to help all people.”
Michelle Lissoos, Managing Director at Think Ahead, added, “A device such as the iPad offers powerful built-in assistive features to complement learners’ vision, hearing, motor skills, learning and literacy. Our programme includes solutions for children with disabilities such as autism, visual impairment, deafness, cerebral palsy, motor functionality and dyslexia, and our facilitators are experts in special needs’ technology solutions; working closely with teachers and therapists, ensuring ongoing professional development and skills transfer.”
