Jo Zanders – DROM, Velotronix and the Joys of 12/8 – a Africa interest event taking place on 2019-07-28 13:00:00 in United Kingdom
In the workshop we will use DROM's homemade drums – XL zabumba, repique de daka (crossbreed between a repinique and a bendir), sideway tenor (horizontal placed prolonged & ducttaped floor tom), as well as the more conventional snare drum, shekeres & bells. We will have set about a selection of high-energy 12/8 trance rhythms, adding some cues that are nice to use for on-the-spot improvisation on top of technosounding grooves. Main goal: play, groove & sweat! About the Artist: Jo Zanders is based in Leuven, Belgium. A self taught percussionist & instrument builder, his musical horizons were broadened by trips through Morocco, Congo, South Africa, Brazil and recently Benin. With every musical project he takes on, he is inspired by traditional music from home and from across the globe. When you add his self-built instruments to the mix, you get an original, individual and usually very raw sound. If you caught his 6-piece band VelotroniX tearing up the Encontro Festival Club last year, you won't want to miss this! Details: All instruments are provided. If you want to bring & play your own, no problem. Levels: Improving and advanced
