Image: © 1962 Nikkatsu Presented in conjunction with the JICC's exhibition Indigo Threads / ?????: Weaving Japanese Craftsmanship & American Heritage Featuring Kyu Sakamoto's international hit song "I Look Up As I Walk" (a.k.a., the "Sukiyaki" song), the first Japanese pop song to top the Billboards in the U.S.! Directed by Toshio Masuda (Rusty Knife, Tora! Tora! Tora!) One night, two delinquent youth, Kyu and Ryoji, escape from juvenile detention during a mass breakout. After a close call with the authorities they decide to split up. Kyu begins to find new meaning in his life through work and romance but Ryoji falls in with a rough crowd which warps his worldview. Starring singer Kyu Sakamoto and directed by one of Nikkatsu's top action directors, Toshio Masuda, Keep Your Chin Up is an entertaining and touching film that captures the joys, sorrows, and hopes of Japanese youth during a time of tremendous change. Starring Kyu Sakamoto, Mitsuo Hamada, Hideki Takahashi, Sayuri Yoshinaga In Japanese with English subtitles | Not Rated | 1962 | 92 min | Directed by Toshio Masuda This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required for security purposes. Film program begins at 6:30 PM. Doors open 30 minutes prior. No admission or re-entry will be permitted after 7:00 PM. Registered guests will be seated on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive early as seating is limited and registration does not guarantee guests a seat.
