Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol for Culture Collections Workshop Birmingham – a Culture interest event taking place on 2019-07-02 09:45:00 in United Kingdom
The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefits Sharing (ABS) supplements the Convention on Biological Diversity’s third objective on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources. Those conducting research and development on genetic resources may be required to gain permission for access, and negotiate terms of use, including any benefit sharing agreements with the provider country. Sometimes, these genetic resources will be deposited in collections, before being transferred to subsequent users. With well-developed procedures, collections can play an important role in ensuring the traceability of genetic resources from access to end-user and thereby facilitate user compliance. The workshop will cover an introduction to Nagoya Protocol and EU Regulations, followed by more specific content on implementation in Culture Collections. The workshop will also cover details of best practice recognition and registered collection status and include a guest talk on developing ABS codes of conduct by CETAF. Collections can also suggest specific discussion points in advance of the meeting through the Eventbrite or by emailing us as abs@beis.gov.uk. Please suggest topics by the 7th June.
