SCOTT (AGE 12) (Silver Badge) While traveling in France we stopped at Paris for a few days. What most interested me was my trip to Fontaine- bleau palace, thirty-seven miles from Paris. We started out on a fairly clear morning on this all-daytrip. Our route was partly through an immense forest,one of the most beautiful in France and the second largestin Europe. For that reason the kings built a palace atFontainebleau, so that when they wanted to hunt in thisforest they could go to the palace. From there we continued our trip to the palace, sometwo miles away. It is a large two-story building formedin the shape of a square, with a court in the center andopen on one side. The buildings were low and had large,glass doors. We went through the rooms of Louis XIV, XV, andXVI, also of Napoleon and Josephine and Marie Antoi-nette. They were all furnished with the original furniture.There were also little anterooms where people who wishedto see the King or Queen would have to wait, according totheir rank. The highest would have to wait the shortesttime, and so on down. Beautiful fountains and gardens surrounded the palace.
