George is a city in the Western Cape Province of South Africa situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on the Garden Route. It is the commercial hub of the Garden Route and it a popular holiday and conference destination. The city was established in 1811 as a result of the growing demand for timber. The population of George is just over 157,000.
