Plage Boys
The Plage Boys

The Plage Boys began some years ago as an informal Friday night gathering of friends to play guitars and sing during warm summers in Mill Valley’s downtown plaza. The concept gathered steam over the years and kept the performers coming back to delight early evening families who stopped to enjoy the music and watch their children dance. The Plage Boys are, Charles Wehr, guitar, vocals, Abby Burton, washboard, Stuart Rabinowitsh, accordion, vocals, Gary Scheuenstuhl, drums, vocals, Neal McDonald, bass, vocals, John Pearce, guitar, vocals, and Jesse Lee Kincaid, violin, guitar, vocals.
Jesse Lee Kincaid began playing music at age 11 when his uncle, 12 string guitar player and folk legend Fred Gerlach, gave him his first guitar. At age 19 Kincaid drove his 1953 Pontiac on Route 66 from Hollywood to New York City to be a folksinger, going on to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he formed a folk music duo with Taj Mahal. In 1965 Jesse and Taj drove cross country from Detroit to Hollywood where they founded The Rising Sons, along with Jesse’s pal Ry Cooder. Their album, containing six Kincaid songs, was released on Columbia Records. Don Henley, of The Eagles, recorded Kincaid’s song, “She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune” for his solo album release, "Cass County."
From New Orleans, Louisiana, Charles Wehr began playing guitar and bass at age 14 and has played with Ernie Kdoe, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, and most of the musical luminaries of that city. His band RZA opened for XTC, U2, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Stuart Rabinowitsh is a jazz pianist with a long list of performances in the Bay Area. In addition to being the owner of Mill Valley Music record store, Gary Scheuenstuhl plays drums with Marinfidels and Jesse Lee Kincaid Band. Abby Burton is an accomplished classical pianist, John Pearce is a songwriter, and Neal McDonald has played with the Mill Valley All Stars.
