First Aid for Sport and Exercise (FASE) Level 2 FASE stands for First Aid for Sport and Exercise. The FASE Level 2 course covers advanced procedures like automated external defibrillation (AED), spinal injury management, and splinting of fractures, as well as addressing some of the important legal issues. This course is delivered by Lubas Medical who have a team of professionals with years of experience in the fields of sport and exercise. The course is recognised to the ACPSEM bronze/silver level, and complies with the standards laid out in UEFA’s 2013/14 Guide to Minimum Medical Requirements. Who is this course for? This course is ideal for non-medical professionals who work in the world of sport and/or exercise. What’s involved? Here are some of the things that we cover on the FASE Level 2 course: Your roles and responsibilities, including the scope of your practice and your legal/professional responsibilities. Approaching and assessing an incident. This means keeping the scene of the accident safe and carrying out a structured injury assessment. Automated external defibrillation (AED) is crucial in the event of cardiac arrest. We will show you how a defibrillator works and how to use it properly. You will learn about bleeding and shock two issues that commonly arise when a player is wounded or injured. Head injuries and concussions are very common in sport, particularly in contact sports like rugby. We’ll talk about the symptoms of concussion and show you how to identify and manage a head injury. It’s important to have a working knowledge of common medical emergencies, e.g. anaphylaxis, asthma, heart attacks, seizures. The FASE Level 2 course covers a wide array of medical emergencies such as these, and you will learn about the proper use of EpiPens and asthma inhalers. You’ll find out how to handle a broad range of bone, muscle and joint injuries, as well as learning how to apply a variety of different splints. Neck and spinal injuries can be life-threatening, so it’s important to spot and deal with them quickly. We’ll show you how to identify and deal with a potential spinal injury. The final part of the course ties everything else together: we’ll familiarise you with the oxygen equipment that medical professionals use, and show you how to use stretchers to safely move injured players around. We place a lot of emphasis on demonstration and practice – not only will you see the instructor perform these skills, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practise them yourself! What qualification will I receive? Completion of this course earns you the Lubas Medical FASE Level 2 certificate, an ACPSEM-recognised qualification. The certificate is valid for 3 years.
