FGM & Cultural Abuse: What Every Professional Needs to Know

FGM & Cultural Abuse: What Every Professional Needs to Know – a Culture interest event taking place on 2018-11-28 09:15:00 in United Kingdom

This vital training aims to enable professionals to protect and support children who have been affected by Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). It is delivered by Pam Young, an extremely experienced former Safeguarding Nurse who worked for many years across the south west. The three hour course will enable participants to: Learn about the practice of FGM, and the effects of this procedure on children. Become familiar with the law and the new statutory responsibilities of professionals regarding FGM. Spot the signs of symptoms of children at risk of, or who have suffered from, FGM and be able to report and refer effectively. Effectively manage a disclosure of FGM. Become aware of local and national FGM support services. *Please note that while tea, coffee and water will be available to delegates throughout the session, lunch will not be provided at the beginning, so please ensure you have something before you attend this session. *Registration and tea/coffee will be available at 9.15am, for a 9.30am prompt start. 'Pam made you feel at ease; the slides and contents were informative and easy to follow. The training consolidated and built on my existing knowledge. The main point that stayed with me was the importance of not jumping to conclusions regarding different cultures and their beliefs. Yes I would recommend this training to others and I would emphasies that we will always need updating on this subject.' (Cindy Macadern, Student at City of Bristol College)
