This is pretty revealing. *You are **more beautiful** than you say you are.*

A forensic sketch artist draws sketches based on how people describe
*themselves*, then draws the same people with strangers describing them.

The strangers’ descriptions were *way* closer to what the women really
looked like. Many of them described themselves in very unflattering ways,
leading to sketches that surprised them all.?

    *Two-part assignment*

Here’s the deal — Don’t do part 1 unless you are also going to do part 2.

*Part 1:* This is a video ad put out by Dove. It is like 6 minutes long.
After watching the video, comment below and share your thoughts. Do this
before doing part 2. Dove Real Beauty Sketches

*Part 2:* This is one viewers comments and criticisms about the video. It’s
a little long, but I think it’s really well written and makes some really
good points. After reading the whole article, share your thoughts below in
    the comments.

It really is amazing the effect that advertising can have on the way we
react to something without even realizing it.?

there a lesson for us all ??
2 People Described The Same Person To A Forensic Artist And This Is What
Happened. How he did this will surprise you.

  10. Christopher Were

Couldn’t he just have deliberately made the portraits of the people
describing themselves worse than the ones of other people’s descriptions?
In one case it was the difference of facial expression. It’s good marketing
but just as manipulative as all the rest.?

  11. The Coon

    25 January 2014 at 1:17 pm

and then? what is the point? Of course he knows how to draw them, he is
forensic artist for gods sake. I don’t get it. Btw, why the people just
can’t accept that they are not as pretty as they think..?

    *Dove*

I love the creative advertising that +Dove have been doing in the last few
years. Historically I tend to think that a lot of the advertising in their
industry has been a bit same same but I think Dove have really broken out
of the mould and are doing some great work.?

  15. TheRealRenimani

I think the ultimate message is beautiful…but I couldn’t help but notice
that the ‘positive’ descriptions in the video were still tied to the
typical idea of ‘beauty’ …thin, very nice blue eyes, you could see her
cheek bones, cute nose. So I couldn’t help but feel at times like it was
saying…”your not as fat as you think” or “you have more features that are
in accordance with mainstream beauty than you realize”. But how should a
beautiful. chubby cheeked, dark skinned woman with a broad, flat nose, like
myself, feel after watching this? We should just focus on the bottom line I
guess…I think it was a brilliant idea and I am not trying to over think
it, it just stood out for me while watching. I prefer the “You are
beautiful no matter what your features are” message over the “You fit into
the narrow mold of mainstream beauty more than you think” message. IMO?

This is not true for me. I think I look better than I really do. Then I see
pictures and I’m like “woah” I look horrible!?

  18. Amanda R

    25 January 2014 at 4:57 pm

can’t you just appreciate the video for what it is? the message is clear,
you are more beautiful than you think. there’s no need to over analyzed
    everything.

Lol I think Dove just makes products for hygiene. Not make up. I may be
    wrong though.

  21. LegitimateFlamingo

    25 January 2014 at 6:12 pm

I mean the message is really nice and I shed a happytear… But thinking
about it, the artist knew who was talking and could have purposefully made
the drawings more or less flattering depending on who was describing just
    to get the message across.

I once knew a perfect person that couldn’t see that what matters is that
others can see true beauty in and don’t even see what they consider flaws.
Every change this person made ruined my love of the idiosyncrasies that
made me adore them. I only wish that it didn’t seem so glamorous and worth
the false vanity they got from destroying everything others lost and never
would see again like the light that drew them in as a moth in the first and
    only time they met.

We don’t need to get hostile. The source of my argument is empirical. Not a
“study”. By the way, your link doesn’t lead to anything. Double check that.

  25. Densegrandeduvan

    25 January 2014 at 7:23 pm

You don’t strike me as the typical man, men are on average not as self
critical as women. It’s a stereotype which is confirmed and well
documented. Here’s a link to a study which shows just this,
pwq.sagepub.com/content/36/1/99 Feel free to reply if you have a source for
your argument, if you just want to say I’m a poopoo head, then I really
    have no time for you.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’d like to see a theatre version of this
    using Family Guy characters.

Peter Pan would be Peter Griffin.
    Lois Griffin would be Wendy.
    Nana would be Brian.

That would be a heck of a lot better than this crap.?

If it was me I would have asked for my money back.
If you wanna propose a girl do it on your own expense and time not on money
which I paid to buy ticket to watch show. That shows how less serious you
are about your profession and really low work ethics.?

  34. Chris Arndt

    25 January 2014 at 10:36 pm

Best part is that it seems none of the cast had any idea this was gonna
    happen?

Wait a minute. She starts crying from the moment he starts talking. His
opening remarks were kind of general and not indicative of an impending
marriage proposal Either she’s the most prescient woman in Scotland or she
knew this was coming. I don’t buy it.?

It was nice and all but after watching 3 times the video I couldn’t stop
thinking about one thing… just imagine… try to imagine… if she had
said no… imagine how destroyed he would be and how surprised everyone in
there would be cause everyone was just cheering, crying, screamming all the
time, imagine the silence if she had said no… god dammit…?

Nana dancing in the background sort of ruined the moment. Idk why. xD And
it wasn’t just a 1 time thing, it happened non stop in the video. Here are
    where they happen…
    1:06 to 1:14, 1:30 to 1:37, 2:14 to 2:30, 2:40 to 2:45, 2:54 to 3:01?
