Digital inclusion and community voices: Stepping over the humanitarian-development divide – a Africa interest event taking place on 2018-05-31 09:00:00 in Kenya
Digital inclusion and community voices: Stepping over the humanitarian-development divide Join us in Nairobi for the 2018 CDAC Network Global Forum 31 May and 01 June Registration required before 30 April as limited spaces This year our Global Forum will bring more than 100 humanitarian and development actors together to focus on the World Humanitarian Summit's Grand Bargain commitment on the humanitarian-development nexus and the power of digital inclusion and community voices to make that connection. A draft agenda will be shared in early April with details of the Nairobi venue. Here is a snapshot of what will be discussed: From Words to Action – the application of Communication and Community Engagement (CCE): Exploring how CCE is put into practice in Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan. What practices are working? Which are scalable and replicable? Community-led innovation in disaster preparedness: This session will look at community leadership and local models. It will draw from innovation labs in Kenya which aim to support community-led initiatives to prepare for and mitigate the effects of drought. It will feature the role of the banking sector around digital finance services and cash transfers/programming with disaster affected. How do we shift gears and preparedness models and avoid defaulting back to the flying in of internationals? Communication and community engagement in situations of armed conflict and violence: A key resource will be the new ICRC-HHI Discussion Paper on Community Engagement in Armed Conflict (forthcoming). The session will go beyond why #Commisaid is critical in conflict situations and focus on the ‘how’ and good practice. What is enabling and preventing us from delivering on our sectorial and institutional commitments on communication and community engagement in such contexts? Making sense of the narrative and numbers – visualising data to inform humanitarian response: This session will focus on visualising and juxtaposing related datasets – including the perspectives of both those affected by disaster and responders – to make such data more accessible and drive improvements in its use in decision-making for preparedness and response planning. How does all the data we collect link up, convey the perspectives of disaster-affected people and inform decisions? The event will end with a reflection on ways in which digital inclusion and community voices connect the humanitarian-development divide and implications for programming and resource allocation. BE PART OF THE DISCUSSION – REGISTER NOW! The Forum will be followed on the afternoon of 1 June by CDAC's General Assembly, open only to those from CDAC Member organisations. Please note that participants will be expected to cover their all of their own costs.
