Diesel Does Europa Book Group discusses Audrey Schulman’s “Three Weeks in December” – a Africa interest event taking place on 2017-06-19 20:00:00 in United States
Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland celebrates ten years of wonderful books by one of our favorite friends in publishing, Europa Editions, with the quarterly book discussion group, Diesel Does Europa. This second quarter we will be discussing Three Weeks in December, by Audrey Schulman on Friday, June 19th, at 7pm.
Three Weeks in December has been a store favorite at Diesel for some time now. A co-worker of ours wrote such an apt shelf-review of it we'll quote it in full here: "Everything about this extraordinary novel is beautifully rendered. Its parallel narratives follow a closeted structural engineer on assignment to build a railroad from the coast of East Africa, circa 1900, and a young female ethnobotanist with Aspergers on a mission to find a rare vine in the highlands of Rwanda, habitat to one of the last mountain gorilla clans, circa 2000. Gripping as their stories are, the real centerpiece is the raw sensuousness of East Africa." Yes & yes.
Much to talk about with this one. The event is free and open to all . . . and wine will be provided, should our tongues at first be tied.
