Deadly Sugarplums: A Fright Before Christmas – a Africa interest event taking place on 2018-12-08 19:00:00 in United States
Description:
A world premiere collaboration between CFAB’s own Frank Blocker and LA horror director Jana Wimer. Based on the Old English tradition of telling ghost stories on Christmas Eve, this new play takes you on a fantastic, heart-thumping ride through a chronology of forgotten tales. These short stories inspired so many of the scary stories we here today. Certainly less gory, but often times more frightening than one would guess.
The audience knows not where the next fright will come or whether the person next to them is real or imagined. And never underestimate a blackout…someone might appear right in front of you when the lights come up.

Jana Wimer is part of the brain trust that turned Los Angeles on its ear with a spine-tingling, environmental production of Urban Death, still going after ten years. Ms. Wimer will bring her unique skills in directing theatre, her love of the horror genre, and her incredible track record of creating unforgettable performance pieces that break down the “fourth wall”. She works with the actors to connect directly to audience members, individually. She recently developed a play in South Africa with local participants who used regional folklore to bring stories to theatrical life.
Blocker is currently the Theater and Film Coordinator at Center for the Performing Arts of Bonita Springs. He has an extensive background in character acting and playwriting in many genres of theatre. He is a Drama Desk Award nominee, Obie winner, and Ovation-recommended performer. Two of his plays ran for more than 18 months each in New York City and his Off-Broadway debut dates back to 2001. His adaptation HP Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu premiered in Los Angeles in 2013, to unanimous critical praise.
