a pannel on which anumber of points are set up all round the edges, so con-trived to enter the same number of holes which aremade in a frame that is joined by hinges to one side ofthe pannel, by which it shuts down and fastens withstrings on the three remaining sides : the annexed repre-sentation will enable-thestudent to understandthe above description :the advantage of thisdrawing – board is thatone can stretch two orthree sheets of paper atthe same time. I shall speak of the manner of perform-ing this operation hereafter. Rulers may be of the common flat kind. The instru-ment called a parallel ruler is occasionally used fordrawing parallel lines; it is, however, more adapted forarchitectural drawing than any thing else. The best brushes are those made of camels hair,notwithstanding there are many artists who prefer sablesas being more elastic; this, however, I consider as merefancy, almost all our best artists making use of camelshair brushes.
