A cool Bloubergstrand Beach image:
Freedom Swim 2008

The annual Freedom Swim/Vista Nova Swim was held on Sunday (Freedom Day) –
"by far the toughest cold water endurance event, with temperatures around 13C (55.4F) currents, swell, and other water creatures. The swim starts at Murray beach on Robben Island and ends at Bloubergstrand Big Bay, north of the rocks. The swim is a distance of 7.5km however, the currents and the swell can increase the distance as much as 10%. The swim has become a unique challenge to open water swimmers around the world mainly due to its cold water and swim conditions."
Not sure what the temperature was on the day, but it was postponed from Saturday due to rough seas.
This is the result of some of the swimmer’s GPS tracking. Not 100% accurate – but you get the idea. If you look closely you can start following the one swimmer all the way home, hehe! 😉
