Concerts on the Quad – Southern Culture on the Skids

Concerts on the Quad – Southern Culture on the Skids – a Culture interest event taking place on 2017-07-17 19:00:00 in United States

UNC Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad will return in summer 2017 with four free Monday evening shows, featuring Americana/roots, jazz, funk, rock and soul music.

The free concerts take place June 19 and 26, and July 10 and 17, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on the UNC Asheville Quad. Attendees are invited to bring chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy along with the music. Meals, treats and drinks will be available from concession stands on the Quad.
July 17 – Southern Culture on the Skids – This trio of Rick Miller (guitar and vocals), Dave Hartman (drums) and Mary Huff (bass and vocals) formed in Chapel Hill in the early 1980s and has been specializing in what they call “a greasy mix of surf, rockabilly, R&B and country-fried garage with a side of psych,” ever since. The Electric Pinecones, their latest album and fifth on their own Kudzu Records label, was released last fall and they will arrive on the Quad fresh from a World Café Live appearance in Philadelphia, and shows in Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Milwaukee and Chicago.
