Communicate, Celebrate and Consult: Creating cultures where all engineers thrive

Communicate, Celebrate and Consult: Creating cultures where all engineers thrive – a Culture interest event taking place on 2017-09-06 09:00:00 in United Kingdom

Communicate, Celebrate and Consult: Creating cultures where all engineers thrive  Overview Over the last 6 years, the Royal Academy of Engineering (the Academy) has been delivering a programme to increase diversity and inclusion (D&I) across engineering. Each year, it shares progress and key themes with partners and stakeholders to drive collaborative change. This year the annual D&I Programme event provides a platform to launch a report on the culture of engineering and the extent to which it is inclusive, based on responses from almost 7,000 engineers. The event will share findings and recommendations from the report, as well as action to progress D&I measurement, inclusive recruitment, communication, D&I supply chain leverage through procurement and progress in D&I across professional engineering institutions.   The event will give delegates an opportunity to: Receive the newly published report into culture and inclusiveness in engineering Get insight into D&I Programme aims and objectives (Dervilla Mitchell FREng, Chair of Academy Diversity and Inclusion Committee) Find out how leaders are taking action at personal and organisational level to develop inclusive leadership. (David Parry-Jones, Vice President VMware Europe and Andy Woodfield, Partner at PWC) Find out and discuss findings and recommendations from the inclusive cultures survey report (David Jenkins, Practice Director Engineering – Transportation, Atkins , Sarah Bond & Dr Gillian Shapiro, for business sake & Bola Fatimilehin, Head of Diversity) Understand what that can do to make an active contribution to creating more inclusive cultures in engineering Find out what the Academy is doing to: –        Develop consistent measures for tracking progress on D&I across engineering (John McCullum, Head of Engineering for BAE Systems Plc & Jenny Young, Head of Diversity) –        Promote more inclusive recruitment practice (Paul Oatham, Infrastructure Global Recruitment Manager & Bola Fatimilehin) –        Stimulate supply chain D&I through procurement practice (Dr Nelson Ogunshakin, President & CEO, Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) & Jenny Young) –        Communicate the programme and its benefits (Pete Price, Director, Operations – Engineering &Technology & Elena Fatisi, Diversity Officer) –        Apply a Progression Framework to increase D&I across professional engineering institutions (tbc) This event is an excellent opportunity for networking and offers a great platform to share ideas and best practice. Who should attend? One of the key recommendations from the inclusive cultures report, to be launched at the event, is that men are key in creating positive D&I change. As the current majority group, the sector needs the vital engagement of men to create a more inclusive engineering culture for the future. We are keen to make the audience for this event as representative of the profession as possible and particularly encourage male attendance.   Engineering leaders Representatives from professional engineering institutions Engineering employers (large and SMEs) Government representatives  Third-sector organisations involved in D&I Social media #EngDiversity @RAEngNews
